"Animation Begins Where Live Action Gives Up" - Kaj Pindal

The title of this special show is a direct quote from Pindal, himself, that perfectly reflects the originality of thought he brought to all his work and thus, embodies the very spirit of our

presentation. Why? Because everything included here comes from the archive Pindal kept of his process, going back to the beginning of his career- all of it pieces which have never been on display before.

Curated by Ellen Besen, the art represented covers lesser-known facets of Pindal’s career such as political cartooning, along with developmental artwork from his better-known films and visual explorations of an astonishing range of ideas, reflecting a mental well of inspiration that never ran dry.

Threading it together is Pindal’s driving force- the desire to educate through humour- all expressed in the crisp graphic form of which he remains the master.
